Dragonvale is a simulation game that allows players to build a dragon park. You can buy new buildings, decorate, and make your park more attractive for visitors. You'll also feed and care for your dragons, as well as breed them to discover new species. The game does require some patience as it can take time to earn the resources to buy a new building or move to the next level. In-app purchases of gems can speed things up.
"This is a great game," all are hooked on DragonVale. all busy taking care of their dragons instead of watching the biggest football game of the year. I finally gave in to curiosity and gave the game a try myself.
What's a nice dragon like you doing in a Breeding Cave like this?
Like most games, there are a few different ways you can play depending on your preferred play style. I play DragonVale casually. I enjoy spending a few minutes to set up some dragon breeding for new eggs. Different combinations of different dragons create new "hybrid" eggs that make your island more interesting and show off your prowess as a dragon master. I've even looked at game guides online to find the right combinations to get the rare dragons. For example, I had to do a little research to find out fire dragons and water dragons make an air dragon egg. I guess I could have figured that one out on my own.
If you're short on time and you're focused on collecting the rare dragons without the long wait, you can spend a few dollars (or a lot of dollars) and buy "gems" through the app itself to speed things up.

The time vs. money play styles for casual games have always interested me. I'm curious what it says about a person when they find their time is more valuable than money, and vice versa. A game has yet to move me to spend real money for virtual items, but DragonVale has obviously done just that for many people - - it's remained in the top three of the "Top Grossing" apps list for some time.
In order to build the greatest dragon park in history, you must raise and breed dragons. When you begin, you only have three types of dragons available to you: plant, fire, and earth. You can purchase dragon eggs from the market and hatch them. Once hatched, you must have a habitat to house these dragons. The dragons will attract visitors to your park, which will earn you money. The more your dragon grows, the more money he will earn you.

Your park itself requires tending, too. It is actually a floating island, filled with bushes, rocks, and trees. In order to make room for habitats or refineries that make your dragons food, you must clear away the brush. The larger trees and rocks will require quite a bit more money to remove.
All of these actions will require not only money, but also time. As is the custom with freemium games, you must have a bit of patience to play… or money. You could always purchase gems to speed up the process, but since hatching a lava dragon can take ten hours, that could be quite a lot of money. This really becomes a problem once you get deep into the game. You'll find you can only perform a few actions before needing to wait several hours.
DragonVale hits on all the right notes, although it does require a bit of patience. You can even share your park with your friends over Facebook. Like Farmville, you can send your friends gifts and help the overall success of their parks. However, also like Farmville, DragonVale requires an Internet connection. Regardless, you'll be surprised how often you want to check on your park to see if your eggs have hatched.
