Quake Live will be the free-to-play version from the popular classic Quake 3. Re-released like a browser based FPS with slight graphic and gameplay updates Quake Live is likely to interest any fan of old school FPS mayhem. Most free shooters today tend to get tactical shooters where players are equipped like present day SWAT squads or soldiers. The weapons are more often than not M16s and AK47s. In Quake Live everything is very different. You ll be running around futuristic maps constantly hopping to stop rockets. There are teleporters and jump pads scattered throughout the over forty arenas (maps) and twelve different weapons available though not every weapons can be found in all arenas. Quake is often a traditional FPS so there aren't any ranks or levels. Players don't gain experience points however their stats including kills/deaths wins/losses and accuracy are recorded making it available online. Players can transform their avatars without notice as it has no effect beyond cosmetics. There are five supported games modes plus they are Free For All Those - A quite typical game mode for casual play. These usually possess a time limit but almost always end when one player reaches the pre-set point requirement (usually 30.)
Team Death Match - Similar to FFA however the players are split into two teams with victory going to the team that collectively reaches the predetermined point value first.
Capture The Flag - Two teams battle against each other and try and bring the opponent s flag with their base. Individual players do receive points for fragging but the only real approach to win a match would be to capture the flag and score capture points. Whichever team reaches the pre-set score requirement or has essentially the most points when time runs out could be the winner.
Duel - Single v 1 test of skill. Just two players then one arena. Who ever gets essentially the most frags wins.
Clan Arena - Two teams fight out but players usually do not respawn upon death until the round is over. The last man standing wins the round for his team.
